Fish: One Big Fat Lake Trout.
I bought a new 9.9hp Mercury outboard for the boat so for the first few hours I was just putting it through the paces all over the lake. The motor performed flawlessly. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning!
Bait: Live Herring.
Location: Everywhere.
Method: Trolling fresh dead herring near the North Tower produced one hit. Drifting with live herring on the bottom in ~75feet of water produced the Lake Trout at about 20 minutes after official sundown. The Lake Trout, which measured 19.75 inches and 2.99 pounds, will be dinner tonight.

Nice catch…and nice new motor! Hey…have you guys done any bass fishing at Round Valley this summer. I’m looking to head up there soon in search of smallmouth. I’m assuming I will need to fish deep, but have you had success in any one partiular section of the lake?
The best Bass fishing i’ve done (regardless of year) has been along the rocks by the paved boat launch and the rocks on the north side by the road heading towards the north tower drifting live herring / shiners hooked under a jaw and out a nostril.
I have caught bass everywhere in the lake along the shoreline. During the daytime using a swimming rapala. dawn/dusk use a hula popper. I’ve had some great success fishing the hula popper in the ranger cove area.
